November 4th, 2025, A note in response to current political climate re: EBT benefits lapse: On Thursday, October 23th, the state of Michigan released a Memo stating that it had been instructed to withhold EBT benefits for the month of November. In response to that, an onslot of free, discounted and otherwise available produce and pantry items began to be distributed via pantries, farmers, churches and small organizations. But what happens next? What happens when they restore EBT benefits? Where was all this excess food prior to the government shut down and availbale for everyday use. Deeply Rooted Produce, Deeply Rooted Enterprises and Deeply Rooted Gardens Inc. is commmited to a system of reciprocity. This means in our eyes, that people have an abundance of a resource that can serve as a commodity (resource) to someone else--whether it be education, cooking skills, play space for children, extra food, food scraps, a fruit tree that their grandparents planted and they don't know how to harvest from/identify or yard waste that they otherwise needed to clean up. It is as simple as us delivering produce to you and picking up your leaves and tree scraps that are left at the curb (something you would do anyway for the city to pick up). Instead of the city taking the scraps to a facility that potentially supports businesses outside of the city of Detroit, your neighbors, who are farmers can receive those yard scraps and thus produce soil and food for you and your family to enjoy. Is that wrong? What more would you like to understand of this type of system of reciprocity? What does reciprocity mean to you?
As of October 1st, 2025, due to the restrictions of our grants' MOU we no longer offer free produce boxes to EBT customers. We deliver produce weekly, donation based, in-person in River Rouge at the Coolidge Plaze (Coolidge & Jefferson).
As of July 15th, 2025, we have made a hard decision to slow down majority of our operations. After seven years, we have discovered that we have been trying to build on a rocky foundation. Although there is outward success, internally, the organization is struggling to keep doors open and maintain multiple projects at a time while being operationally sustainable. Dazmonique is tired repeating cycles of misery & despair. Now its time to rebrand and we appreciate the love, support, ad patience thus far as we take the needed steps to step back and reevaluate our business model. Currently Deeply Rooted Produce is only operating its mobile markets that help decrease waste with rescued foods and supporting HomesteadingMamí and Deeply Rooted Gardens Inc with Good Food Fridays. Founder Dazmonique (a.k.a HomesteadingMamí) is a farmer choosing to upcycle delicious meals from local & rescued foods and share them with community at Good Food Fridays--weekly community dinners on the farm. She is creating new ways to bring the envisioned world where every community is lifestyle-friendly, sustainable, and self-sufficient—where wellness is normal, food is sacred, and where people care for each other and the earth like family.
Michigan Fitness Foundation boxes are still being subsidized and provided to you with as much local produce as possible. Produce Boxes are available AT NO COST to EBT customers with MFF covering 90% of the box cost & Deeply Rooted Gardens Inc. (DRG) covering 10% of the cost for the produce box. Boxes are available for pick up and delivery to specific locations. More details here. In partnership with other land stewards and "earth agvocates" we choose to fight a problem that exisited before our organizations were born while helping restore digity and access by delivering nutritious, affordable, and culturally relevant food directly to underserved communities through farming, mobile markets, and educational empowerment--reviving the land and its people from the inside out. We thank you in advance for your support and donations. Donations can be received by Deeply Rooted Gardens Inc.
2/26/25 Notice: All boxes will receive recipes and the OPTION to add items to their boxes. As we unfold need products and services, subscription holders will be able to gain access to different tier communities with information to aid in the storage, processing, and cooking of the items you receive. More information to follow. Thanks for your patience in advance.
As of September 2nd, 2024, we released this letter to customers.
Thank you to all our current and past customers. We are actively changing to become the greatest versions of ourselves, as individuals and as a company. Investing in better farm practices to increase quality embracing our “moments before you motto”.
The way you order food from us and how you pay for it will change. We currently only have ONE product offering but TWO WAYS TO PAY.
There is only one produce box available, distributed WEEKLY. We will no longer offer CSAs purchased for an entire season in advance. Instead, you select the amount of weeks you would like to pay for at a time and multiply the price by the number of weeks to get your price. Some customers have paid for weeks prior and are working down their store credit while others are paying weekly to receive weekly deliveries/pick up.
Ways to pay:
-EBT customers who will receive a Michigan Farm 2 Family Subsidy (MF2F), only pay 75% of the cost of the box WHEN PAYING WITH EBT cards & DUFB cards.
-If paying with both EBT card and Debt Card: Pay at the link provided with Debit card first and then we will process EBT upon your delivery time.
-Customers who do not receive EBT state incentives you are required to pay PRIOR to delivery via payment link provided to you. With this link you will pay one box times the amount of weeks you would like to sign up for. If you need multiple boxes or have special instructions please put them in the notes section. Delivery is priced into the box and each box is the same price no matter delivery address.
This information will also be updated on our website, newsletter and in the form to submit to an order. The form must be consolidated so thank you for your patience in advance.
As Detroit's First Zero Waste Mobile Grocery Store, we prioritize access to healthy foods and bring the health home to you. All of our operations are cyclical and holistic and consider people, prosperity, planet, and profit to ensure that we have a viable business.
